He extended his hand towards me and asked "would you care to dance?" I gently placed my gloved hand onto his open palm, accepting the invitation. He led me out into the garden where everything was touched by moonlight. He grabbed my waist, and we began to slowly drift across the courtyard.
As the song ended, we wandered through the castle to a balcony overlooking the small villages. Seeing all the lights turn off one by one reminded me of the short time I had. Suddenly the bell rang. My time has run out. "I have to go" I said as I tore myself from his arms and ran to search for the staircase that I desperately needed. The bell rang again. I had ten more sorrowful rings left to get out of the palace.
In discovering the staircase, I remembered how overjoyed I was to walk up it. Now, it was torture to run down the staircase and through that memory, replacing the joy with agony. I kept the tears back and accidently stumbled down the stairs. The bell continued to ring its heart aching sound into my mind, shaking my whole body with fear that he might find out.
I finally made it outside and found my carriage waiting for me. As I climbed in it, I noticed that my shoe had been lost in all the chaos. Hearing the bell ring its eleventh ring, I knew there was no time to get it.
I placed my head in my hands and began to cry. My silent tears soaked into the fabric of my gloves, as they began to slowly disappear and revealed my over worked fingers. I looked down at my body and found myself back in my old ragged work clothes. The bell rang is twelfth mournful ring, as everything unraveled to its end.
